Fired Recruiter in Custody After 2 Shot at Navy Base

(NEWSER– Two people have been shot at a Navy base in Millington, Tennessee. WMC-TV in Memphis reports that a suspect is in custody and that the victims are expected to survive. The station says the suspect is a member of the National Guard, and the AP calls him a Navy recruiter who had been fired earlier in the day. Authorities say he used a handgun. The Memphis Commercial Appeal adds that the official name of the facility is Naval Support Activity Mid-South, which has 8,000 mostly military employees. A loudspeaker warned everyone to "shelter in place" about 12:45pm.
